i live in MD and was approved for medicare a%26amp;d in sept 09. i then had option to choose medicare part D but i did not. i have lived in MD since 87 and was going to be moving back Tenn in next year and half so i had everything i owned in storage in Tenn. at the time i should have been enrolling in part d, i was notified that my storage unit was broken into and everything i owned was stolen. i was in such anguish over loosing everything that i owned i went to Tenn to try and look and search in hopes of recovering some of my items myself, even though there was a detective assigned to my case (only family members knew about the storage unit). i went there thinking i would be able to find something. Sooo i FORGOT all about signing up for medicare part D. so i wound up signing up for a medicare advantage plan and now i can't sign up for part D until next year and would also be charged a penalty for late enrollment. so now i have aetna medicare and medicaid and extra money coming out of my check each month that i can't afford for the aetna. this day i find out that i am low income subsidy and approved for the open enrollment. i know i can drop or change aetna but i would have no prescription coverage. does anyone know if there is anything i can do to get a prescription coverage without having to pay out extra money for this aetna medicare that is costing me an extra $140 per month that i can't afford. i'm in a mess here but i don't know what i'm doing and have a very hard time comprehending and remembering what i'm told and all the different plans and forms. when i was in tenn i needed to see a dr but not need go to emergency room. i could not see a doctor there because aetna medicare would not pay because it was out of my area!!!! i just don't know what i'm doing or should do. please help with giving me some ideas pleaseWhen I was approved 4 Medicare I did not pick Medicare Part D If I drop Aetna I have no prescription coverage?
You can still change your prescription plan Part D until the end of March this year. I don't think you can change your Medicare plan. Check the website or the 2010 book. If you dont qualify for extra help with Part D since it covers only certain drugs, I discovered that Walmart and Walgreens have cheap rates for prescriptions. I think you might investigate that as a separate drug plan with your Medicare. When I was approved 4 Medicare I did not pick Medicare Part D If I drop Aetna I have no prescription coverage?
I had a million questions. The service I used for enrolling my mom was very helpful. They could save you from over spending. The website was rightmedicare.com. It was a small fee, but I think it was worth it. Hope this helps. When I was approved 4 Medicare I did not pick Medicare Part D If I drop Aetna I have no prescription coverage?
You might google "supplemental prescription insurance".
If you are age 50+, you might be eligible for AARP coverage.
See if ANY of your meds have generic substitutes. If so, Walmart sells generics for $4.00.
You could save a bundle that way, IF you have the generic equivalent.
If you must pay for your own test strips, Walmart's Rely-On meter sells for about $10.00 and the test strips sell for $39.99 per 100.
If you have a Kroger grocery store near you, those are even cheaper.
Another thing I found out about having more that one insurance company is that you have TWO deductibles to pay, and have to satisfy TWO copays most of the time.
Contact Medicare and see if you can drop aetna and pick up the part D.
Or, compare prices between Aetna and other insurance companies.
Have you contacted your automobile insurance company? Many of them can refer their good customers to an 'associated' medical insurance company.
You might even wind up with a package deal if you are lucky.
