If the bible isn't meant to be taken literal then how can you be literally christian?

Was there like a serious bible? Oh wait, you cherry pick parts that make sense and say that's being christian. If the bible isn't meant to be taken literal then how can you be literally christian?
That sounds about right.
No, we just know the difference between literal and an allegory. I'm sorry that you can't seem to grasp the idea of a holy book having both literal parts and parts that are in a parable format. Maybe you should look into a remedial English Lit. class? If the bible isn't meant to be taken literal then how can you be literally christian?
No, not really. You can believe all of that older stuff, but use a multitude of guides to assist you in understanding the ancient societies, and the meanings behind the passages. You try to keep an open mind, and interpret the reason for the various commandments at those times and why they truly were needed and benefited ancient societies.

Or you can just be pig headed, and interpret them in accordance to today's standards of ethics, and society.. it is, after all, much easier to take them entirely out of context rather than research more about them.
Why do atheists always want to start a troll-like argument? For the record, I am a Christian who has read and fully understands the Bible %26amp; its historical and social connotations, and I take it- in its original Hebrew unmarred by translation- 100% literally as the word of God.If the bible isn't meant to be taken literal then how can you be literally christian?
Oh, the world would be such a better place without the troll.

Let's get a Fellowship together to defeat it.

I'm wearing the mythril shirt and carrying the ring!
"The Bible" isn't one book. Some parts are literal, some aren't. That's like saying "Oh, you don't take the Iliad to be literal, so how can you take this biography to be literal?"
knowledge is not the answer to be christian , one must live it and take what is dished out to you , the good and the bad , jesus did ,
Easy.

Why are you whining about a serious Bible when the Bible is already much more serious than you are?

Wrong.
I accept the Bible literally.
Which literal translation do you have?
