How are people picked to take part in an identity parade? What happens if the witness picks them?

Do people have a choice whether to take part or not?How are people picked to take part in an identity parade? What happens if the witness picks them?
Up north we pay people to take their photo, we then use them instead of a real live line up.

This way they get some money and no more hassle of having to turn up at the nick.

We have a huge database of people.

Years ago I was in the town centre when a copper asked me and my mates to go to the nick to take part in one, we got a tenner for our troubles and none of us were picked out!
Do you mean a witness line-up?

It depends.

1. sometimes everyone in the lineup is a suspect

2. other times 3 or 4 out of the 5 people in the lineup are known people. People that the police already know werent involved in the crime. If one of them are picked, nothing happens.

If someone in the first scenario is picked, they are questioned by detectives, if enough evidence is found, they are charged. How are people picked to take part in an identity parade? What happens if the witness picks them?
In the UK.

You can volunteer your services to stand on an ID parade when the need arises, the people who take part in them (not the suspect) are called 'Standards' and usually get paid around 拢10 for their trouble and time.

Every force area in the UK has an identity suite, make enquiries there.

When there is a shortage of standards for a parade, the police often go to Job Centres to recruit, I was even sent out onto the street a few times to find suitable candidates.

It is exceedingly rare for a standard to be picked by the witness, as they are told before the parade that they have to be absolutely certain of their selection. If they are, no action is usually taken as the police know the standards background, unless of course in the highly unlikely event the witness is certain.

You do have a choice of whether or not you want to be a standard in any given parade, and the suspects' solicitor also has the opportunity to reject any standards before the parade commences.
First they have to get a line of 'stooges' who look nearly the same! That is same height, colouring,!The suspect has a choice where to stand in the line!If the witness picks the wrong one out!Nothing happens! How are people picked to take part in an identity parade? In Birmingham it is mostly the Heroin addicts who stand outside the main I.D station in New Town at 9.am every morning who get picked. They receive cash in hand.

Most cities the police will ask random members of the public if they would mind taking part.

The reason of an identity parade is they have someone usually in custody, or bailed to attend an I.D Parade for a crime ,and it is to see if they are picked out not members of the public so if you are picked out nothing will happen to you.
