Hello gamer,
no matter how much your budget you have on hand, if you are really serious into gaming you need to take into account the following facts:
You need a good power supply from a reliable vendor. No Low Budget PSU made-in China. Nada.
A good CPU Processor, be from Intel or AMD, the latest like the Core i7 (Nehalem) Intel Socket LGA 1366.
A extremely fast VGA from a reputable maker like NVdia or ATi.
A good cooling system to dissipate the CPU heat.
You can check the specs for PSU, coolers and CPU from Thermal Take USA

BTW, if you are going into heavy gaming, then you need to know how to tweak your system, meaning overclocking, so read the documentation available on Internet. Good luck partner. Can anyone help me pick parts for a PC that I'm going to build?
Special for you !!!

A 40'' HDTV is going to be at least 700USD. With 1300 you will be able to buy yourself an upper-mid range PC. You should really wait till you have the money to start looking at parts, new stuff will come out by the time you are ready to buy. :)
A 40 inch HDTV cost roughly $700 MSRP. ASuming you have $2500 budget, you have $1800 to work with. If you want a gaming PC, you actually don't need all that high gear stuff on the market like a Intel core i7 which has 8 cores thanks to HT. You really do not need 8 cores. WHat you wil lneed is a powerful PSu for sure. Get a decent cheap case becuase its whats inside that matters, but be sure to consider the form factor.A quad core made my intel or the Core i5 will do you good for gaming and is "future" proof for atleast a while. If you want to be confident with your PC, get 6GBs of ram which is guarantee, but you really don't need more than 4. Probably, one of the pxpensiv ethings out there is a GPU. If you're looking for Nvidia, go to their website and you will be able to find the classifications of the video cards and purchase one in the "gaming" category. A 500GB HDD will do you good, unless you download a lot of programs and leave it there. For optical drives, get a standard DVDRW drive, becuase nwo a days, games for PCs are on regular DVDs. Thsoe are nto all the thigns a computer is made up of but those are the things that a person should consider when building a gaming PC. This,m with tax, would be under a $1800 budget. I should know, helped friend buy parts and build it.
