I'm about to buy a Midland 1001Z cb radio. It has a power of 4 watts. Just want to know about how much range I can get out of that kind of power. Thanks! What is the Range of a 4 Watt CB Radio?
It all depends. 4 watts is average. If you are in a heavily forested area with a crappy antenna you may get a few miles. However if you have a nice quarter wave antenna and you are out in the middle of the desert you can get 60+ miles. Weather makes a little difference too. Anticipate 8-10 miles or so for a mixed area with hills and trees. What is the Range of a 4 Watt CB Radio?
Like most things, it depends. You can probably count on a half a mile. And if we ever get sunspots back, you may be able to hear and talk to people hundreds of miles away.
Power is far from the most important factor. Intercontinental contacts have been made using a fraction of a watt, and 100 watts may not get you into the next state..
For reliable communications (as distinct from playing around, niot that there's anything wrong with playing around) CB has been basically useless since the 1970s.
