Start from the CB out to the antenna. Plug a known dummy load with known good coax and see if it's the CB that's bad. Then your coax out to dummy load, if possible, to see if your coax is bad (new doesn't necessarily mean working, could be bad connectors). Then (I'm assuming you have a 1/4 wave or equivalent) make sure your antenna isn't shorted out. Make sure it's the correct length for the frequency you're using. Make sure the radiating element isn't touching any other metal. The ideal ground plane ideally needs to look like a disc, out to about the electrical length of the radiating element. That's why it's best to have it on the center of the (metal) roof. Remember, we're talking ground plane here, not a wire going to a ground stake outside, or stuck to the top of the CB itself. The SWR on my CB radio is high no matter how i tune?
Base stationn or mobile? %26amp; how do you have your antenna mounted?
