What zodiac sign do people often confuse you for?

BTW: Chris "looks" like a Scorpio %26amp; Bree like a Sagittarius imoWhat zodiac sign do people often confuse you for?
they mistake me for a big penis :(
i am the parrot sign but they normally confuse me for a gorilla sign no offenceWhat zodiac sign do people often confuse you for?
I don't know why but I'm often mistaken for a Virgo or a Cancer. I'm a Leo..go figure LOL
I've been mistaken for Aries before, but most people have never even commented on my Sun sign let alone confuse my Sun sign. I do have Mars conjunct Ascendant and Aries Venus conjunct Jupiter, so it's somewhat understandable in that case at least. What zodiac sign do people often confuse you for?
virgo probably most often. on occasion pisces. sometimes cancer, but only by people who don't understand that sign lol.
Saggitarius
Most say Aquarius and Libra.

I'm a Scorpio.
Pisces :P
I get mistaken for an Aquarius a lot, but I'm a Sagittarius. The only spot I have Aquarius is in my midheaven.
ur right on the money for me lol.

people have thought I was a scorpio before. but I think it's cuz of my scorpio rising and pluto is pretty strong in my chart. I have pluto conjunct the ascendant.

I think aspects in your first or to your ascendant can really change up the way you come off to others.

How about you? What sign do others confuse you for?
mistake me for a libra whenever i say i'm a scorpio there like your not, u don't seem evil(whatever that means)

i have a libra rising so it makes sense i guess %26lt;3
People do mistake me for someone more confident and feisty all the time and they approach me accordingly. And I react as the spluttering awkward mess that I am...I don't know why but that's just how my face falls :'(

Pisces sun, Sag moon
depending on the first impression i give someone i could be mistaken for a capricorn (if i'm quiet) or a water sign (if i'm talkative). i could probably fake a pisces if needed =p

i'm an aquarius but have a venus in capricorn and few scorpio placements
I get mistaken for a Scorpio, Libra or Cancer.

But usually people guess correctly that i'm a Taurus ^_^

  • Which zodiac sign seems to always praise themselves in your eyes?

I say Scorpio's are bad at that. I know they will hunt me down for saying that lol. But not to worry........I will put this up to vote soon.Which zodiac sign seems to always praise themselves in your eyes?
    leos, duh.

    haha.

that's what they are known for.

    leos and aries.
    I praise myself a lot. I'm Sun-Leo, Moon-Aquarius, Rising-Virgo.

I don't do it in front of people who can't handle it. Only those who know me well, and know i only need a pick me up, and no one else can say the right things to me better than i can.

I don't know anyone who praises themselves. Most of the people i know hate themselves inside, and only talk about neutral things. If they did praise themselves all the time, it'd annoy me at first, but i'd get used to it, and be glad that their esteem is glowing.

I've never met a Scorpio who praises them-self, the one i know at the moment won't even accept me telling her she's really pretty. She is really pretty though, it kinda upsets me that she can't see it. Very beautiful face.Which zodiac sign seems to always praise themselves in your eyes?
lol i never praise myself!! though i do feel "good about myself" when i've helped someone get better from when they started off from, if you know what i mean, like changing into something better . . . i dunno . . .

i have a libra friend who does priase herself alot though, but in a subtle way.

i agree with the person above me i HATE getting compliments, they just dont affect my ego at all, only i can change that.
I'm always hearing people dissing Leos with being conceited and craving attention... I really dont know any leos like this! My mom is a leo and if you tell her she looks pretty she will instantly shoot herself down. I have a few leo friends and their the same way. I've never really met a snobby, conceited Leo.

I say Libras all the way. 100%.Which zodiac sign seems to always praise themselves in your eyes?
lol Leo, for sure. I am one, and I am my own biggest fan. So is Madonna, and let's be honest she loves talking about herself. Oh and the Celebrity who is Best know for loving himself? Gene Simmons? he's Leo too
    generally, leos and libras.

but of course, not all are this way. its a stereotype. it depends on the rest of the chart, and the opinion of the person making the decision.
Leo and Libra. Aquarius too sometimes.
LMAO! The first answerer looks like a total b*tch.

    EDIT: I KNEW IT!!. :D... YOU ARE A B*TCH!! :D
    leos. aries.
Aries - if I immediately had to choose only one.
Not trying to offend anyone but I would say Aries

    Good question.

What is more important to you power or love and what is your zodiac sign?

of course, love. power ignores others' will. love is all about caring for others' will.

Scorpio. What is more important to you power or love and what is your zodiac sign?
    Love, Love, Love,

True Love is hard to find. You can acquire power anytime.

btw, I have found my true love we just need to work some things out (smile)!

This Cancer Lady will handle the LOVE and my Scorpio Man will handle the POWER (he-he)
Power. I believe in power more than love...you can always be certain of self power, but love is more complex. Power is also easier to find. What is more important to you power or love and what is your zodiac sign?
    Power
If I would be guaranteed to be loved forever or have power forever I would choose to be loved. What is more important to you power or love and what is your zodiac sign?
    love...

I'll always be able to find power when I need it.

Love is more rare and special

Power can be manifested in just about any form.. Love can only in one.
love is more important cos if you have too much power then ppl start to fear and hate you. there is none of that with love.
Love is more important, but I would definitely try to find a way to have both :-)
love,,but if i can't find it, or it fails me..i will concentrate on power..
Look what power has done to our world.

I choose love, acceptance and peace.
    ...Right now...?

    Love.

But power is something that is on my mind a lot.
    Love.
    love XD
Love is more important to me.
    Love, and Capricorn. (:
    Love is a powerful force...

People really do match their zodiac signs?

Alot of people say that you shouldn't compare people and try to criticize them on their zodiac sign. I understand that part, but people really do act like their zodiac signs and moon signs. Do anyone agree with me? Though it was kind of a waist, I just wanted to know if anyone agree with me that people really do act like their signs.People really do match their zodiac signs?
Yeah ppl do IN MY OPINION act like their sun signs as well as their moon and mars signs !!! (:People really do match their zodiac signs?
I was fishing. My horoscope said I would be the center of attention. It wasn't funny.People really do match their zodiac signs?
Yes, some people do but others do it just for fun. Some do it because they believe in it. Some also don't though...because it's silly really.
well i act like my sign, plus the ones u read, your horoscopes depends on every detail when u were born like where and wat time. i kinda agree with them, but i guess its one of those mistories of life.

Can anyone explain the 13th zodiac sign, Ophiuchus, to me?

I have just recently found out there is a 13th zodiac sign by the name of Ophiuchus, who runs into our ecliptic from November 29-December 17. This leaves what we know today about our zodiac completely incorrect. Is this true? Does this mean everything we know about astrology is false?

I'm trying to find more information, but I cannot seem to find much to answer my questions.

I like to interpret birth charts and horoscopes, but now I'm unsure if all the information produced is true or not. Can anyone give me more information on this? Can anyone explain the 13th zodiac sign, Ophiuchus, to me?
You're confusing the zodiac, used by astrologers, with the ecliptic, used by astronomers. Astrologers arbitrarily divide the ecliptic up into 12 equal "signs." These are completely out of whack with the real constellations in the sky, which astronomers use, and which are defined by their boundaries. It happens that 13 unequal constellations fall along the ecliptic, and the Sun (and other solar system bodies) spends varying amounts of time in them. Can anyone explain the 13th zodiac sign, Ophiuchus, to me?
GeoffG: No actually Melissa isn't confusing zodiac with ecliptic. The zodiac (or astrology) is BASED on the ecliptic, so what she's confusing are TROPICAL (12 sign) and SIDEREAL (13 sign) zodiacs, both sub-categories of ecliptics.

Can anyone explain the 13th zodiac sign, Ophiuchus, to me?
There are 13 constellations that the sun passes through in the sky. There happen to be about 12 lunar months in a year so the astrologists decided that it is all bunk anyways so they tossed out Ophiuchus for the "zodiac".
Hi. This astronomical (vs astrological) constellation is the "Serpent Holder". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ophiuchus And yes, astrology would get freaked out by its inclusion in the zodiac.

  • Where Did The Names of the Zodiac Signs Come From, What Purpose Do They Serve?

I fall under Scorpio.....Pretty much what it says applies to my personality.

How do people know how to write these up?Where Did The Names of the Zodiac Signs Come From, What Purpose Do They Serve?
    Secular explanations:

    Sci-Tech Encyclopedia: Zodiac

The band of sky through which the Sun, Moon, and planets apparently move in the course of the year. The Babylonians, about 2500 years ago, divided the zodiac into 12 parts, which correspond to constellations. These zodiacal constellations, in order around the sky, are Aries, the Ram; Taurus, the Bull; Gemini, the Twins; Cancer, the Crab; Leo, the Lion; Virgo, the Virgin; Libra, the Scales; Scorpius, the Scorpion; Sagittarius, the Archer, Capricornus, the Sea Goat; Aquarius, the Water Carrier; and Pisces, the Fish. These constellations are based on Greek myths.

Some scholars have claimed that the Babylonians invented the zodiac of 360 degrees around 700 BCE, perhaps even earlier. Many claim that India received the knowledge of the zodiac from Babylonia or even later from Greece. However, as old as the Rig Veda, the oldest Vedic text, there are clear references to a chakra or wheel of 360 spokes placed in the sky. The number 360 and its related numbers like 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 108, 432 and 720 occur commonly in Vedic symbolism. It is in the hymns of the great Rishi Dirghatamas (RV I.140 鈥?164) that we have the clearest such references.

Where Did The Names of the Zodiac Signs Come From, What Purpose Do They Serve?
They are names that represent 12 of the constellations along the ecliptic, or the apparent path of the sun against the cosmos.

They are supposed to be influenced by various planets, giving the people who fall under their sign certain characteristics. However, the descriptions provided for people who fall under any sign are always vague.

Try looking up another sign, and see if it fits you. In fact, try all 11, and see if they "pretty much" match your personality.

The zodiac and horoscopes are superstitious hogwash, survived through the generations by superstitious, or fanciful, people. They do not serve any purpose, except to entertain.
    think "MONEY"

none of this stuff makes sense since many of the planets were not even discovered that could have an influence on the known planets to produce the results indicated by all the math mumbo jumbo

The Greeks seemed to have a good understanding of human personalities and wrote many plays and stories with this theme.

A college prof gave each of his students their reading for the day. All thought it was accurate to their personality. Only then did he tell them they were all the sameWhere Did The Names of the Zodiac Signs Come From, What Purpose Do They Serve?
The zodiac signs are all based in Greek mythology. See the site for the specifics of your sign.

I don't know where it originated but I heard from a reliable source that the zodiac use to start with Virgo and end with Leo. Just a little trivia to research if you want.
Greek mythology. Each sign has it's own little story behind it and they also are affiliated with planets/named after greek gods/goddesses

for what purpose they serve, kind of depends on who you are.

  • How did the signs of the zodiac become associated with the differant houses and categories associated with ?

    please explain and describe.

Thanks for your answers! How did the signs of the zodiac become associated with the differant houses and categories associated with ?
The zodiac was first developed by the Babylonians. It became associated with the different houses and categories by the constellations they were named after and the positions of the starsHow did the signs of the zodiac become associated with the differant houses and categories associated with ?
the signs became associated with the houses they appear in at sunrise on the first day of spring, but I think that's a big mistake. They mean completely different things, it's like saying bananas are the same thing as ice cream because once in awhile they'll be in the same dish. Houses are houses, signs are signs......How did the signs of the zodiac become associated with the differant houses and categories associated with ?
    12 signs = 12 houses

Can someone give me something at least semi-legit on the zodiac change thing?

Like something on the news and not just something you read on some website you've never heard of, or from a friend on facebook? Until then I am still a Scorpio. Can someone give me something at least semi-legit on the zodiac change thing?
Here is an excellent link to something which puts the change into proper perspective:

    http://shine.yahoo.com/channel/none/has-鈥?/a>

You stick with Scorpio. I would be Ophiucus (the 13th sign) if I decided to buy into the shift interpretation; but I don't, so I remain a Sagittarius.

It only applies to sidereal Astrology anyway......if you live in the western hemisphere, you probably follow tropical Astrology which is not effected. Can someone give me something at least semi-legit on the zodiac change thing?
Well its nice to know i had no idea!

Did the signs for your zodiac thing change ?

I keep hearing everyone saying that they had changed because of something with the moon or something .. I don't know I didn't really read anything I jus heard people say something like that .

And I have another question totally unrelated about this topic.

What's your outlook on Sagittarius ?

Do most of them appear prettier to you or something ?

I'm a Capricorn .Did the signs for your zodiac thing change ?
Yeah everyones has changed and apparently should have changed a long time ago. I went from being a Cancer to being considered a Gemini ? I'm still very much a cancer though.

I'm not too crazy about Saggitarius' and have found them to be fairly average looking.

    ^
didnt know that nvm... I guess im still a cancer then :)
yeah they have because of the moon's gravitational pull on Earth, the alignment of the stars was pushed by about a month but it only applies to the ones born after they changed it.

    here are the new signs:
    Capricorn: Jan. 20-Feb. 16.
    Aquarius: Feb. 16-March 11.
    Pisces: March 11-April 18.
    Aries: April 18-May 13.
    Taurus: May 13-June 21.
    Gemini: June 21-July 20.
    Cancer: July 20-Aug. 10.
    Leo: Aug. 10-Sept. 16.
    Virgo: Sept. 16-Oct. 30.
    Libra: Oct. 30-Nov. 23.
    Scorpio: Nov. 23-29.
Ophiuchus: Nov. 29-Dec. 17.Did the signs for your zodiac thing change ?
yes they have changed, but most newspapers and magazines are refusing to achknowledge this and keep the old ones as they were, your zodiac sign doesn't effect your appearence , its suposed to be able to predict your future and personality
They only changed for people born after 2009 so yours is not changed and

    a cap-on-your-corn is allot better than a sag-in-yer-tarius!

Is it true if you were born after 2009 you have to follow the new zodiac signs?

If heard that, also I heard only people born in 2011 ans up have to follow it!!!Is it true if you were born after 2009 you have to follow the new zodiac signs?
    You were born after 2009?

Wow you must be one smart babyIs it true if you were born after 2009 you have to follow the new zodiac signs?
Ok I think i figured it out. Ok the new sign ophiuchus has always been there but we havent seen it because the earth was in a spot where ophiuchus was never visible to us but the moons gravitational pull made the earth be in a slightly different spot so now we can see it. So the way that zodiac sign work is that you are the zodiac sign that you were born under. I was born October 28 and i was born when the Scorpio constellation was visible. But the new signs say that people born in october 28 are now virgos but the fact is that i was born during the scorpios visibility not the virgo so therefore I am a scorpio, but now the virgo constellation will be visible during my birthday but that doesnt make any difference to me it applies to the babies born when the virgo constellation is present. The babylonians went through this where they added ophiuchus to the list of zodiac signs but then they removed it one day so it seems as though we are just going through another one of earths cycles. Sorry for such a long answer but i had to clear this one up for people that are making stuff up before they actually research it but basically I have the characteristics of a scorpio not a virgo and Im sure you have the characteristics of your sign too, not the new one. Dont change your sign because it is the one you were born under, BUT if you just dont like your zodiac sign and you like the new one for your birthday then what the heck go by that one if you want to.Is it true if you were born after 2009 you have to follow the new zodiac signs?
Nope, the zodiac didn't change. The "change" the news was referring to only applies to Sidereal/Vedic astrology-which is used mainly in India and other east Asian countries. We just use Western or Tropical astrology here in the US and Europe.

And the "new" 13th sign Ophiuchus has always been around in Sidereal astrology. The news is just stupid and misinformed.

    So there's absolutely no change.
and if you believe in The American Princess then the easter bunny has just landed on (MARS)

  • What Are The Most Sensual Signs Of The Zodiac?

Being a Cancer (Cap moon), I'm pretty sensual. What others are there? I've heard, strangely, that Aquarius is another one that is quite sensual. What Are The Most Sensual Signs Of The Zodiac?
I'm a very sensual person so I guess that probably some Scorpios!
for me Cancer, PIsces and Aquarius are the three most sensual signs from the zodiac. They hard find time expressing their feelings and sometimes it is easier for them to hide how they feel, instead of let everything out. They create their own little dramas.

I wouldn't say Leos are sensual... we're emotional... but that is completely different thing. What Are The Most Sensual Signs Of The Zodiac?
Any sign can be sensual but Taurus are by far my most sensual.

They like their creature comforts and are literally ruled by the senses. If you find someone who I very sensual but not a Taurus sun then they'll probably have Taurus moon, venus, rising or mars.
    * Taurus is one of the most, if not the most sensual- fabric, aroma, smooth skin, the sound of birds singing, the taste of good food- all are very important to them. Cancer is also sensual , as are the other earth signs, so you've got a double dose of sensuality. What Are The Most Sensual Signs Of The Zodiac?
I would say every sign has the potential for sensuality, depending on their other placements. I know Leo's love to be touched and held, to an extreme. I also read an article the other day that said people with Lilith in Scorpio, even if they have very loving childhoods, love to be held, touched and caressed to the extreme.
I think the most sensual I've met were Taurus, Leo, and Aquarius. Aquarius is very sensual, but only behind closed doors, while Taurus and Leo may show sensuality openly, in public, anywhere.

    Libra's Gemini's Leo's

@ Leo lady sensual as in sexual or flirty sensual.
omg Cancer and Taurus....Virgo and Pisces...extremely sensual signs.
The only thing I could tell you is that Taurus is the most sensual

  • What do you hate and love about cancer zodiac?

Just wondering...Btw i am a cancer female with ascendent scorpio. What do you hate and love about cancer zodiac?
they can be so emotional that they hide their emotions and treat themselves and others badly, not directly but indirectly..they can be promiscuous and self involved, and can use people for their own motives..

but they are also loving, tactile, intuitive, persuasive and very fun to be around. one of my best friends is a cancer and so is my little sister and i love them both soo much, and people always say they love their personalities. they are vibrant people to be around, so make others light up when they enter a room. =)What do you hate and love about cancer zodiac?
I love that they are really caring and sensitive. But I don't quite like that sometimes they are waaay over sensitive and get moody for minor things. Or that they are always (ok, most of the time) unsatisfied with something :(What do you hate and love about cancer zodiac?
I love they're kindness and they are caring. I also like how you can talk and talk to your problems and they will listen, it's nice to know someone cares!

I don't HATE anything about them, but I dislike the fact that they're whiny and irritable.
I'm Cancer too and I love that we're caring but don't like that we're shy

What would my zodiac sign be if I was born on April 20, 1995?

I am apparently between Aries and Taurus but I want to know which one is the real one. Apparently it depends on the year you are born. Anybody know? What would my zodiac sign be if I was born on April 20, 1995?
You're still on a Cusp. The best way possible to say whether you're an Aries or a Taurus is to check the hour that you were born in. If it's earlier in the day, you're still an Aries. But if it's later in the day, you're a Taurus
You are an aries I believe.

Go to Google and type in "free birth chart." Then fill in the form and it will tell you not only your sun sign (what you are looking for in your question) but also many of your other signs like your moon sign, mercury sign, etc. You will learn a lot and will not regret it. Good luck! What would my zodiac sign be if I was born on April 20, 1995?

There are a lot of sites that give different cut-off dates for Aries,

but most of the ones I've found say that April 20th would make you

    Aries.
You would be a taurus for sure.
    Umm. Aries. :/

in fact with my moon in Libra I'm pretty charming and "charismatic"

the taurus' i know love to blend into the background, go unnoticed and are just bland people
no...i'm a taurus and i SUCK at public speakingDo you think people under the Taurus zodiac sign have charisma?
No, I feel that the opposite is true actually. They tend to sort of blend into the crowd. It's my opinion.
Actually, most Taureans I meet are the most dull out of the earth signs. They seem a little dry to me. Venus wasn't kind to them. I think Virgos and Caps are more charismatic.
no... you would have to be retarded to believe in astrology

How big of a role does the Zodiac play in astrology?

    I'm a Libra.

The one movie that really scared was I'm Legend(2007). At the part that is close to the end, all those zombies run at Robert's house right after sunset. That part of the movie made me actually scare to stay home by myself at night.Name your zodiac sign and some of the movies that actually scared you?
    I'm a fellow Libra.

Naturally, The Exorcist scared the crap out of me, as it did most everyone else I've heard. I was afraid to leave the window to my bedroom open in fear that evil demons would possess me (as if I'm not possessed enough already...lol). Also, Gothika scared me. The way the ghost girl would just jump out, out of nowhere. I saw it at a friend's house, and I drove home that night with the lights on in my car...seriously. I'm such a wimp sometimes.
Hi, I'm gonna have to agree I am Legend was kinda scary but the one that actually freaked me out was that Emily Rose movie. The worst part is it was based on real events and that's the thing that got me. It was good though but it goes to show that there are things out there that should never be played with or taken for granted.

Capricorn SunName your zodiac sign and some of the movies that actually scared you?
The only movies i'm terrified to watch are the ones based on true events, only because those are the ones that i feel could happen in real life. other movies are - the unborn. i haven't seen it yet but it looks terrifying! the part where the girl wakes up on the cieling and is looking at herself sleeping. that is so scary.

i'm an aries. opposite of a libra :D but i do love air signs
There was this movie that was made back in the late 70's called "the haunting of julia" and it scared the sh** out of me because there was a little girl that was haunting the house that this woman bought.I couldn't sleep all night thinking about that little girl with a knife in her hand.Name your zodiac sign and some of the movies that actually scared you?
    This is a fun question.

I'm Cancer and, though I am a BIG, BIG fan of the SAW film series, it IS some very scary stuff. It's too realistic, you know? I can actually see that crap happening.

Believe it or not, Thirteen Ghosts, the 2000+ version, caused me to stay awake for days, and I have been an adult for long time, Jack!
I am a Cancer, and anything dealing with Heaven/Hell/Demons/etc scares the sh*t out of me.

And anything nasty like Saw, or Hostel.. where people are tortured..

But things like the Ring or whatever are just funny/stupid.

    I'm a Virgo.

How to set up a base station cb radio without the use of coax cable?

I just got this base station cb from my grandfather but I don't have any connectors or coax neither an antenna and was wondering if there was a way to hook it up with out any of these itemsHow to set up a base station cb radio without the use of coax cable?
You going have to have an antenna, coaxial cable, coaxial connectors for both ends and if the radio does have one built-in and S meter to tune the antenna. How to set up a base station cb radio without the use of coax cable?
It's not possible at least not for transmitting. A long wire poked into the antenna socket should hear something on receive but is totally inappropriate for transmitting as it won't match the transmitter output and could do damage if you tried transmitting with it. The good news is that CB antennas complete with coax and connectors are relatively inexpensive. How to set up a base station cb radio without the use of coax cable?
If you have a length of TV antenna strip stuff and a place to hang the dipole/transmission line combination that you make from it, I believe that half wavelength multiples repeat the impedance of the transmitter, and it is possible to use one length of this stuff to make a cheap antenna. Only thing is, you have to use the right length for the line going out to the antenna part of the strip.

Slice the ribbon lengthwise for 9 feet, and tie it in a "granny" knot to both keep the ribbon from splitting any further, and use the knot as a place to mount the antenna if it's going to be an inverted-V (between 90掳 and 110掳 for best radiation pattern).

The tricky part is that half wavelength multiples of the type of ribbon you use will not be the 18 feet sections that you would find with coax.. The velocity factor is different, and you may have to see if there is a chart available somewhere on the Internet to give you some better guidelines. A standard alligator clip to connect one side to the center of the SO-239 on the radio, and maybe a battery clamp to connect the other wire to the outside, and you're on the air. You may be limited to only a few channels, but it would work.

I don't know if you have any ham friends that might have an SWR analyzer to help you with this, but I think it would be a very interesting experiment. Good luck.

Edit: It could be odd half-wavelength multiples, I'd have to look it up. It's been a while. BTW it's TV twin lead, use the brown stuff.

I just bought a midland CB radio (item#=1001z) but it didn't come with the cigarette adapter or anything just the red and black cables (I'm guessing to just hook it straight up to the battery). all i want to do is just find a cigarette plug cut it and wire it to the red and black cable. the only thing that I'm worried about is mixing up the black and red wires with the ones on the cigarette plug and frying it.

  • I have a CB radio every time I key up my computer shuts down why is this?

I notice that since I have a stronger CB radio Lines come across my tv more especially channel 2 ..mind you i have cablevision and my computer system shuts down ..any remedies ..anybody else has this problem ...plz get back to meI have a CB radio every time I key up my computer shuts down why is this?
Your CB is causing the interference due to the output being picked up by your cablevision and PC (either through the cables, power leads, or directly.)

Try putting a low-pass filter in the antenna lead AT THE RADIO, and Ferrite chokes on the power leads of radio, tv, computer (I assume it is a 110ac radio.)

ALSO, move the radio and computer as far apart as possible.

Be SURE the radio is GROUNDED properly. (See manual)

My Kilowatt output ham unit does NOT bother a computer. In fact I use an older computer (with appropriate software) to control the radio IN THE SAME ROOM!!I have a CB radio every time I key up my computer shuts down why is this?
are they powered in the same outlet? if so, the cb could be drawing too much current or voltage. this drop can cause a computer to power down to protect itself. try to power them through seperate outlets, possibly circuits if possible.I have a CB radio every time I key up my computer shuts down why is this?
    Try these:

    - Move the computer away from the radio, antenna, and coax to reduce RF interference.

    - Put the computer on a different circuit breaker and/or plug the computer into a UPS to avoid power dropouts.

    - Turn down your amplifier and get a ham license.
CB's messing with tv reception, even cable is not all that uncommon. The frequencies are pretty close to each other. The CB messing with the computer is a bit odd. If you are running an amplifier with the CB, I would suspect that the amp is pulling down the ac voltage enough to cause the pc to loose power. Try raising your CB antenna higher and see if that helps the TV situation. I would also use high quality coax for the cable connections.

  • How to install a cb radio in a car?

I have already installed the CB, it is grounded to the body of the truck and plugged into the accessory fuse line out and the antenna is sat on the cab roof with a magnetic base. My problem is that I get static. I do pick up other CBs on the highway sometimes as far as a mile or 2, but I think it has to do with the other CBs more then mine. Does anyone know of any tweaks I could try to boost my range %26amp; clarity and cut back on static. How to install a cb radio in a car?
adjust the squelch. and a mile or 2 isn't far at all. if that's all you're picking up i would suggest not trying to talk at all because anybody and everybody is going to key over you. and depending on your radio model you won't be able to do any modifcations to it. if you've got a full size then you could get the dioades changed in it to increase wattage (anything over 4 whatts is illegal according to FCC regulations so remember that.) but you could try that and you could also get an amp depending on the radio every 100 watts adds 70 miles to the range so you could try that if you wanted personally there's no point in it but it's whatever you want to do.How to install a cb radio in a car?
You said you hooked it into the fuse line, don't do that. Hook it straight to the battery, both positive and negative wires, and ground it separately with grounding braid. How to install a cb radio in a car?
Do you get it only when the engine is running? If so, it's spark plug noise. New cables might do the trick. Is the interference a whine that changes pitch when you step on the accelerator? If so, it's alternator noise. A noise filter on the positive lead should help or running both leads directly to the battery will eliminate it. If you do this, put fuses on both leads.

How to set up a CB Radio?

I just got a uniden pro 500 Cb radio with a firestik II antenna. Would I need to adjust the antenna before I use the CB? Also would I need a SWR meter or could I adjust it with my fingers to get the right reception. Also im pretty sure that to adjust the squelch you turn the knob until you dont hear any noise??

ThanksHow to set up a CB Radio?
First and foremost... Do Not turn the radio on without the antenna connected.......

The antenna is preadjusted from the factory to the middle of the CB band - channel 20.... You will not need an SWR meter.... If you plan on using the radio a lot with friends at either end of the CB radio spectrum like channel 1 to 5 or channel 35 to 40 then I would recommend you get an SWR meter......

Adjust squelch?.... Turn the knob slowly until the sound stops coming out of the speakers.... If You you turn it all the way then the squelch will not "open" so to speak.... So turn it enough to get the background hissing noise stop (not conversations).......How to set up a CB Radio?

I disagree with "Common Sense" on this one. You should care and you should report it to the authorities, although little may be done. Someone said for evil to triumph, it only takes good men doing nothing. The main thing you do not want to do is pay any attention to them on the air. They are probably losers looking for attention and the worst thing you can do is acknowledge the fact that you are listening. Don't call them , don't criticize them and most important don't get into an on air argument with them. That's the attention they want. They may get bored and go away. In the meantime, if it bugs you change channels, and I do agree getting a ham license is a great idea. Hams aren't all pure as the driven snow, but are a lot better and are usually self policing of the privileges they have earned.Cb radio questions and concerns in canada please help me deal with rude cb radio operators?

  • How many amps dose a CB Car Radio need?

How many amps do i need to push a CB car radio that runs at 13.8v. I have searched the internet for this and i cant find it for anything. How many amps dose a CB Car Radio need?
a 3amp fuse comes with cb radios that have fuses already installed, even if you have your radio tuned to push 20w its not 20w of power, like your thinking. So the 3amp fuse still works, its what i use on my galaxy dx959 which pushes almost 30watts sideband

3 Amp FuseHow many amps dose a CB Car Radio need?
Well, you can figure that the CB radio draws most current when it is in the transmit mode and modulated at 100%. Now, there will be some secondary circuits involved but they draw negligible current in comparison.

So, if your radio puts out the legal limit of 4 watts RF plus say 2 watts of audio at 100%, and the power supply uses another watt in losses, I figure, since power = Voltage x Current

    7 watts = 13.8 Vdc x Current

    Current = 7 watts / 13.8 Vdc = 0.507 Amps.

I would use a 0.750 Amp or even a 1.0 Amp fuse would likely be within the limits of good surge protection for your radio.

How many amps dose a CB Car Radio need?
Now most, and I know I'm going to get razzed by someone about this, but most CB's are only 4 watt of RF power from the factory. Now you can by some with 20 watts, 50 watts, etc. But, for most CB radios a 5 -7 amp would be more than enough to power it.

At this size of fuse you won't have to worry about burning down the vehicle either.
About 2 Amps. Although the final is running at %26lt;5 Watts and modulation is 2.5 Watts (assuming the AM model) which would imply %26lt;1 Amp, there is quite a bit of additional circuitry which makes for some additional current.

How to Tell If a CB radio is blown?

I got a cheap CB and i am wondering how to check to see if it is blown without hooking up an antenna? How to Tell If a CB radio is blown?
If you are going to test its transmitting capabilities, you may want to buy a "dummy load" and connecting coax. You can also use a watt meter and a frequency counter to check power output and frequency accuracy, if you want to go that far.How to Tell If a CB radio is blown?
Your best bet is to use a SWR/Watt meter to check the power output of the radio. Since you do not want to hook it up to a antenna you will need to either buy or make a dummy load.

Since a CB radio is fairly low power you can make a cheap dummy load from parts available at Radioshack, however I would only transmit into this for a couple seconds. Pick up 5 10ohm resistors with the highest wattage rating available. Solder these in series and connect them to a PL-259 connector. You now have a cheap dummy load that will work in very short intervals. How to Tell If a CB radio is blown?
hook it up to power and see if it turns on but don't key the mike without an antenna on it.

How do you speak through the attachable microphone on a CB Radio?

    Hi there

The speaker/mics themselves should not require a battery.

You may have to go back to the store to check it out , but its possible that the speaker/mic is not compatible with the 2100.

I have seen them used with the 1200 though.

liek sparky said, your best bet is to get a noise filter, but its still not going to stop it, CB radios accept incomming transmissions, and electronics in your car let out radio waves and it screws with it, the noise filters will help, but wont totally eliminate the noise.

Well, uniden is one of the best brands out there.

It all depends on what you want to do with it.

CB is in the 11 meter band (27mhz ) and therefore will require a rather large antenna but not extremely huge.

You want an antenna that will match the wavelength for the specific frequency you are transmitting on. The typical antenna for mobile is a ground plane antenna which means that it utilizes your vehicles metal body to reflect RF waves out. It typically resembles a straight antenna with no radial arms.

You can calculate the length by using this formula

    Wavelength=300/Frequency in MHZ

    or

    Wavelength=300/27

    This is equals 11 meters.

If you are in us then you will need to convert it to feet.

11meters=429inches (11*39) or 35.75 feet. Now if you have a half meter antenna then you would divide the 35.75 by 2 which equals 17 feet. Hence the reason why cb antennas are so long.

There are many models out there that are much shorter due to a larger wave.

Typically a 4 or 5 foot antenna is sufficient.

Now you will need an swr meter. This measures forward and reflected power from your transmitter (cb radio)

For example if you transmit at 4 watts (the legal allowed limit for cb by the fcc) then it will measure how many watts is actually reflected back down the cable from the antenna into your cb. If it is too high it can burn out the finals on your radio.

A perfect swr is a ratio of 1:1 which means no wattage is reflected back. However this is impossible so you aim to get it as close as possible.

I cannot remember the specific formula but you can google swr formulas in google and get it to assist you.

Unlike amatuer radios that transmitt at a maximum of 1500 watts, you do not need a license to transmit on cb (citizen's band) frequencies.

Make sure you get an antenna with a 50ohm cable. This is standard so you should not have any problems. CB equipment is available at tons of places such as radio shack, or even a local truck stop, although you need to be careful there.

Best bet is to find a local amatuer radio shop and ask them to assist you if they deal in cb equipment.

Being that you are only using 4 watts of power swr is not as big of a danger as it would be if you were using 50watts.

So I hope this helps and remember to always use common sense.

Can anyone recommend a place that can "hop up" an old Sears Roadtalker CB Radio?

I have a 1979 Sears Roadtalker, SSB, Base/Mobile CB radio. The radio is in exceptional condition and is installed in a Marmon Tractor of approximately the same year. I do not want to change the radio to a newer more powerful model for sentimental reasons. I am trying to find someone to work on it. Maybe an old radio tech with parts available. I want it to sound better and obviously be more powerful and I am willing to pay a fair price. I have been to at least 20 radio shops and they only want to work on new products. Any ideas??Can anyone recommend a place that can "hop up" an old Sears Roadtalker CB Radio?
Any modifications to CB radio that teke their power output over the 4 watt and 100% modulation limits are forbidden by FCC regulation.

    Here is the applicable regulation:

Any modifications that make the radio do anything over and beyond what it was designed to do are also forbidden by regulation.

Sec. 95.425 (CB Rule 25) May I make any changes to my CB station transmitter?

    (a) You must not make or have any one else make any internal modification to your CB transmitter.

    (b) Internal modification does not include:

    (1) Repair or servicing of a CB station transmitter (see CB Rule 24,

    Sec. 95.424); or

    (2) Changing plug-in modules which were certificated as part of your CB transmitter.

    (c) You must not operate a CB transmitter which has been modified by anyone in any way, including modification to operate on unauthorized frequencies or with illegal power. (See CB Rules 9 and 11, Sec. Sec. 95.409 and 95.411.)

    ----------------------

As an amateur operator you must be especially careful. You could be subject to the loss of your license. An amateur license does not give you special priveleges on CB. They are 2 different services, each with their own regulations.

Why not just stick to the ham bands? They are certainly much more fun and you can do all the enhancements you want legally.

The spring is a about 2" long and 1/4" in diameter.

    It's probably a TVI filter add-on.

Most CB's had one adjustable coil to reduce TVI, but were barely adequate - so if the CB operator was close to a neighbor with TV interference, the neighbor usually complainedOld school Cb radio mod that has a spring mounted on the chassis?
It sounds like a T section high pass filter. The capacitors will pass the higher frequencies and the coil will take the lower frequencies to ground. This would help reduce spurious output from the transmitter.

  • How do I use the side band settings on my cb radio and what are the benifits, and should I considder a linear?

I have a new side band radio and tuned a set of firestik duals but dont really know how to use it besides talking to truckers on the road. What are the advantages of upper and lower side band, and how much trouble would one be in for adding a linear amplifier to their radio? What are the benifits of that? And last but not least how do I get the engine noise to go away from the radio? How do I use the side band settings on my cb radio and what are the benifits, and should I considder a linear?
Sideband is a Mode (or type) of transmission , just as AM is also another Mode.

CB's that have sideband modes will be switchable from LSB (lower sideband) and USB (upper sideband).

These modes offer greater range than normal AM.

Sideband CB's will put out 12 watts on sideband whereas AM transmissions are only 4 or 5 watts output.

Due to atmospheric conditions in the ionosphere long distances (500miles +) are possible on the CB band.

While possible on AM , the Mode is more prone to noise and fading effects , combine that with low output power makes it a poor choice for trying for long distance 'DX' contacts.

Sideband Mode is much more suitable for DX as it is less prone to distortions of the signal when it is refracted back to earth by the ionosphere. , and the extra power does help.

With the standard power of 12 watts feeding a 5/8 wave vertical I was able to make contacts easily of over 2500miles and I also made some contacts of over 5000 miles.

This is of course using the ionosphere to return the transmitted signals back to earth.

This condition is called 'Skip' , even though this is a misapplied term.

Typically without Skip , the standard transmission range of sideband Cb's with 12 watts is about 20 to 30 miles with a good antenna system.

Using an external amplifier , often called a 'Linear Amp' is illegal and is a Federal offense.

Using one and getting caught with it will incur a heavy fine and a police record that never goes away.

Performance wise, it is better to go with standard power and good antenna rather than use a poor antenna and a Linear Amp.

Electrical interference getting into the radio can be cured by installing noise suppressors on the alternator.

Older vehicles with separate regulators etc may need one there as well. , as well as distributers that use contact points.

This will cure most of your noise.

Don't forget to firmly mount the radio to the car body making sure it has a good electrical connection as well.

Run your + battery supply directly between the battery and the radio , making sure that the cable it doesn't pass nearby devices in the engine compartment (or the cabin) that makes noise (eg , alternator , electric fans , computers etc)

Make sure your antenna also is properly grounded to the vehicle body with a good solid mechanical and electrical connection. How do I use the side band settings on my cb radio and what are the benifits, and should I considder a linear?
Sideband is a term describing a modulated lobe of a frequency. upper and lower Single Sidebands are identical in modulation, but off carrier frequency. If you really want to boost SSB operation, I'd recommend a modulator instead of a linear.

As far as usefulness.. very few people actually use it. both people have to be on the same frequency, on the same sideband, in order to even receive each other clearly. You could consider it a cheesy way to a private channel.. as most people don't have sideband radio's, and fewer care to flip through 120 channels to find your conversation.

I've been in CB's, radio's, and electronics for many years, and I've spent no useful time on a CB Sideband channel.. ever. There are conditions where Sideband can "talk skip" extremely well.. but you're lucky to be in that skip pocket to begin with, nevermind someone else in that pocket being on the same sideband channel as you.

Engine Noise.. you need grounding straps for your engine and frame. Any CB shop should be able to help. The idea is to create a good grounding connection between your engine block and your frame by using conductive straps. "Engine Noise" is typically generated by static electricity (caused by moving/rotating parts) finding it's way to ground (the chassis) through the electrical system, instead of a path of lesser electrical resistance.

Can i use a cb radio at my house?

Hello. I am going to get a cb radio and I was wodering if i could use it at my home. I want to, U know just talk to other people but i know they are very short distance radios. Do i need an antenna? I would want to talk to truckers also. Would that work? what type of antenna would i need? Can i use a cb radio at my house?
depending on how many trees are around any where between a 20ft fiberglass antenna and 50ft should do you also have signal boosters

I have a CB Radio and want to know which channels are for what in Clark County, Washington?

i have bought and installed a cobra cb radio in my truck. every now and again ill get someone on channel 6 yacking about God knows what. but i have no real understanding of the channel numbers in my area.I have a CB Radio and want to know which channels are for what in Clark County, Washington?
Channel 19 is the most popular. Also is known to be the trucker channel. Channel 9 is for emergencies only. Channel six is called the superbowl channel, it is also known as the black channel. It is the same in almost every state around the US.

How do I prevent my CB radio from interfering with my stereo?

Whenever I key the mic on my truck's CB while the truck's stereo is "on" or in standby, the CB antenna wire produces severe interference in the stereo that can be heard in the stereo speakers. The lower CB channels produce a sharp "popping" kind of interference while the higher channels produce more of a "whining" or "humming" interference. The previous stereo I had installed in the truck did not have this problem with the same CB rig. Any ideas? How do I prevent my CB radio from interfering with my stereo?
If I can remember back to my CB days, it sounds like you don't have a good ground, whether it be your stereo or your CB antennae. Also, if you're driving your CB with a linear amp, there's not much you can do because the wattage produced from the amp can leak into your stereo system when you key up. My suggestion would be to go to your local CB shop and talk to one of the techs there. I'm sure they deal with these problems daily. How do I prevent my CB radio from interfering with my stereo?
if your running extra power you are not going to get rid of it. Their for should not NEED better ground, but that sounds like your problem, you need a better ground, ground the radio chassis itself, and if you really wanna know get rid of it you pay have to ground everything to the frame, bumpers fenders, doors, hood, etc.

Noise filters are very rarely work, if you get one and that works for you great. but it doubt that will help. the stereos wiring is cheep, its a problem with most electronics now a days.

will turning the stereo off work? How do I prevent my CB radio from interfering with my stereo?
Back in the day I would install a RF filter on the sterio to tackle this problem.

  • What is a good size CB radio aerial for my home?

I have recently bought a CB radio and i need an antenna for it and i was wondering what is a good size antenna for the side of my house, i was also wondering where else i could mount the antenna as i can not get it on the roof.

CheersWhat is a good size CB radio aerial for my home?
Could always do what I did when I use to live in apartments. Get an Antron 99A 18ft cb antenna, a 5ft tripod for antenna masts and around 10-20 feet of antenna mast. This will get the antenna roughly about 30 feet up in the air. With that being done, you would also need to have guy wires going from the mast to the ground to keep it all from tipping over if wind got up too high. A long copper rod in the ground with copper wiring attached would be good to redirect lightning if it decided to strike your antenna.

  • Why, in CB radio speak, do we use the term "roger" when we acknowledge something?

When using CB or two way radio, to end a line of conversation, or to acknowledge someone, we use the term "Roger" -Why?Why, in CB radio speak, do we use the term "roger" when we acknowledge something?
It dates back to Morse code days, when it took too many telegraph key strokes to say "received", so it was abbreviated to "r". In the phonetic alphabet in use in the early days of radio, "r" was denoted by "roger", and the term has stuck. Why, in CB radio speak, do we use the term "roger" when we acknowledge something?
You can, of course, just use plain English. No need to be "radio Joe" and use all those terms. A simple "Yeah, uh-huh" will suffice. Why, in CB radio speak, do we use the term "roger" when we acknowledge something?
its telling the person that you heard the person if you don't they may thing somethings wrong so you say that tell the other person that you herd them

How can i wire my CB radio?

i just got a Midland 1001z CB radio and im not really sure how to wire it up. i have a 1986 Dodge Ram 50, the smallest Dodge truck made. if you know of any easy ways to wire it, i would really appreciate your help. thanks so muchHow can i wire my CB radio?
JB hifiHow can i wire my CB radio?
in cab run the radio wires to the cig lighter wires however if your cig lighter actually still works just go to a truckstop and pick up an adapter that plugs into the cigarette lighter and soder and shrink tube the wires that's the easiest way. as for the coax, mounts, and antennas that's where you get the pain because to do it RIGHT you've got to tear out the seat, carpet, drill out a body plug, use wire to run the coax up through the bed to where you're mounts will go (I recommend the the stake hole mounts so there's no drilling involved) then you've got to cut a slit in the carpet or find a way to route it so it looks good and then throw everything back together again. typically depending on how much sh*t you have to take out and how you or whoever's truck you're putting it in wants it it takes anywhere from 4-10 hours to get the WHOLE job done. not fun and there's very little pay out in the end.How can i wire my CB radio?
You need to find a hot wire, and wire the one with the fuse to that, then run the other to a good metal ground preferable using a screw that you find screwed into metal. Once you get that done, hook up the antenna to the back, and you are done. (lets not get into setting swr)
I have used a cig lighter to power one, red goes to centre of adapter.

Why was CB radio illegal in the UK?

I was reading Wikipedia about the awful trucker film "Convoy" and it mentioned that the popularity of the film led to widespread CB adoption in the UK, and because of that, CB radios were legalised.

It would never occur to me that something so fundamental to wireless communication would be illegal, but then again, this a country where people walk around with antennae trying to determine if people have unlicenced TVs.

Does anyone know why CBs were illegal, and also what and was the status of ham/shortwave radio at the time compared to the regulations require to operate that equipment? Why was CB radio illegal in the UK?
BBC controls radio in order to silence any non-state-owned media that could threaten their validity as a news source and in turn their propaganda distribution. The goal of this was suppressing pirate radio transmissions. Use of CB could have opened up possible modifications that in turn would allow easier access to broadcasting on various frequencies. Ham radios could easily be used to communicate in a semi-private fashion away from listening ears. Why was CB radio illegal in the UK?
As I recall, the early AM sets caused a lot of interference in all sorts of ways, so rules were hurriedly brought in to regulate CB, including the permitted power. And, of course, the Government spotted an opportunity to levy another tax by way of a licence fee. Now that CB has lost it's popularity as far as I know they've given up on that idea, presumably because it has become more costly to collect than it's worth!

Can a CB radio be hooked up to receive/transmit through the vehicles radio antenna?

I am wanting to ad a cb to my new truck, but do not like having the look of another antenna on the truck. I have heard that more than one item can be hooked into an antenna, is that true in this case? Can a CB radio be hooked up to receive/transmit through the vehicles radio antenna?
Can it be? Probably. Should it be? No way!

A regular am/fm antenna is not suited to CB RX/TX - different impedance, length, and total height requirements.

Even a CB antenna should be specifically tuned to the CB it is being used with for best performance and to prevent damage to the CB.

There is also a specific CB cable length that should be used. Can a CB radio be hooked up to receive/transmit through the vehicles radio antenna?
Yes, it's possible, but it would be cost-prohibitive to do so unless you just want to experiment and have fun. You'd need a tuner, the right transmission line and connections, and a switching mechanism. Yes, multiple receivers can be hooked to a single antenna, but only one at a time with transmitters.

What do I need to run a CB Radio?

Im looking to get a CB radio in my car. I was wondering what all I needed to buy with it. Also, I live in kentucky, was wondering if these things are still popular. What do I need to run a CB Radio?
I live in Colorado, and can hear lots of people using their CB radios on a regular basis. When travelling cross-country, I always 'have my ears on', as a decent radio is better than any radar detector when it comes to finding out where speed traps exist. Many people still use CB.

As far as what you need, the set typically comes with a radio and handset. You usually need to purchase an antenna (the most important part, talk to someone who is knowledgeable about radios to get the proper length and type), and possibly extra power wiring for the radio. Be sure to use a fuse. If any of this sounds like Greek, the guys at Radio Shack or any local electronics shop can set you up.

Be mindful that using an amp on your CB is illegal, and if caught (which can happen, as most amps are home-brewed affairs and not very well-built), you can face fines from the FCC, not to mention the wrath of other users if your amp is shoddy and causes interference.

Have fun! What do I need to run a CB Radio?
a cb.. a whip.... thats the antena... and the wires to run it.... but u can also boost your power by gettin a power booster(amp)What do I need to run a CB Radio?
Just a power supply and an antenna, but no very few people use these any more except maybe the long haul truckers.

  • Is it a good idea to use a CB antenna for both a CB and your radio?

i know that you can buy a splitter, and run your radio and CB radio from a CB antenna, but will it work as well as having two separate ones?Is it a good idea to use a CB antenna for both a CB and your radio?
If you buy a GOOD splitter, and a GOOD antenna-and also match the antenna properly, then yes! I am using a K40 on my boat and the cb and radio work fine, I believe Firestick sells the splitter for like $20. You have to use a CB antenna not a car radio antenna. Is it a good idea to use a CB antenna for both a CB and your radio?
No reason why it should not work. Some cars in the '70s came with CB radios and only one antenna. It looked so much like a regular radio antenna, you had to look inside to see if there was a microphone hanging from the dash. Plus am/fm radios will receive very well off any kind of wire stuck out in the atmosphere. Is it a good idea to use a CB antenna for both a CB and your radio?
It should work fine, like the one guy said all you need for your car radio is a wire antenna, I have used a coat hanger before on the radio I have in my garage to listen to it and it works beautiful.

What is the Range of a 4 Watt CB Radio?

I'm about to buy a Midland 1001Z cb radio. It has a power of 4 watts. Just want to know about how much range I can get out of that kind of power. Thanks! What is the Range of a 4 Watt CB Radio?
It all depends. 4 watts is average. If you are in a heavily forested area with a crappy antenna you may get a few miles. However if you have a nice quarter wave antenna and you are out in the middle of the desert you can get 60+ miles. Weather makes a little difference too. Anticipate 8-10 miles or so for a mixed area with hills and trees. What is the Range of a 4 Watt CB Radio?
Like most things, it depends. You can probably count on a half a mile. And if we ever get sunspots back, you may be able to hear and talk to people hundreds of miles away.

Power is far from the most important factor. Intercontinental contacts have been made using a fraction of a watt, and 100 watts may not get you into the next state..

For reliable communications (as distinct from playing around, niot that there's anything wrong with playing around) CB has been basically useless since the 1970s.

If you touch a cb radio antenna or if it is touching anything will it blow a fuse or break anything?

just wondering cause im putting in a cb radio in my car but a a temporary thing putting the antenna in the car and it might touch some stuff

im sure i wont get much range but just wondeirng

thanksIf you touch a cb radio antenna or if it is touching anything will it blow a fuse or break anything?
It could mess with sensitive electronics.

CB radios emit a high voltage, (but low current) when transmitting. It won't hurt the CB, but if the antenna is close to something like an iPod, or laptop, it could induce enough field effect voltage to fry a chip.

Radios built after the mid-80's have circuit protection built in, so you won't "blow the finals", or damage the transmitting components.

If you have a pass-through hole to the trunk, you can put it in there. You won't be able to hear or talk more than a few hundred feet, but it works.
the aerial has nothing to do with power. If you touch a cb radio antenna or if it is touching anything will it blow a fuse or break anything?
have to take swr reading and if its too high can blow finals on transmitter/result is radio junk
The antenna tip is where your transmitted signal goes and that could pose a problem if grounded to your car. Also, the antenna must be grounded to the radio ONLY for best performance. (Simply attach it via the cable to the radio.)

Your best bet is just to get a magnet mount antenna like a Wilson 1000. That way you can put on/take off as needed. If you touch a cb radio antenna or if it is touching anything will it blow a fuse or break anything?
it won,t hurt nothing. i have a k-40 antenna on my car and i went into those underground garages and it went cling, cling, cling and no fuse blew. just don,t key the mic and you will be ok.
    minor touching is not harmful

How far can a CB radio reach?

Okay, just because I think their cool I want to get a CB radio set. My friends live pretty far away. How far can a good CB radio reach? What is the average price for a good radio? How far can a CB radio reach?
Reliably, 5-10 miles with a good antenna Don't be suckered into trying illegal amplifiers, the fines are rough. Have you considered Ham radio? have fun which ever way you go.
for a CB in the car, 5 to 7 miles would be typical with a good antenna (about $40-$70.00), depending upon conditions

for a CB in the house with a good antenna (about $100.00), 10-20 miles, again depending upon conditions

    good mobile radio - ~ $60.00 to $100.00

good base radio - ~ $100 to $300.00How far can a CB radio reach?
It really depends on the antenna you use, its height above average terrain, the time of day, whether you're using sideband or AM, man-made and natural interference, and whether you're using ground waves, line of sight, or propagation. If you have a fat wallet and lots of property at the top of a hill, you can do quite a bit with range. Average users on mobile AM, eh, 5 miles or so. a few more miles at night maybe. They're about $40 at the discounts stores, about $160 for a good sideband rig at the truck stops.
Typically a cb can reach 2 - 5 miles, but can reach up to 20 to 25 miles depending on the terrain. Depending on where you go and the brand you buy, expect to pay between $25 to $65. You probably can get a used one on ebay or Craigslist. How far can a CB radio reach?
With a roof antenna, 3-6 miles is average.

  • What kind of CB radio and what frequencies do the school bus drivers use?

I want to hear what the School bus drivers are talking about on the CB. But I don't know if different types or brands or something of CB radios have different things or something. What kind of CB radio and what frequencies do the school bus drivers use?
Most school buses do not use CB radios. They use commercial FM two way radios that are licensed by the FCC here in the US. There are very many frequenies that they use, but try 155.22 MHz in a scanner as a starting point. That same frequency is used by some Search and Rescue groups and Veterinarians and other businesses.
Here in WV school bus drivers still use cb radio if they drive in congested Coal Truck areas and call out where they are and where there stopping to give coal truck drivers a heads up on a lot of these curvy 2 lane roads. channel 19.

Depending upon where the school bus drivers are.. some use citizens band to talk between the drivers. In my area they used cheap 40 channels they bought at the local wal-mart with a mag mount before some crud started between the local antagonist and the bus drivers happened and let's just say some prinipals found out quickly how much they were talked about.... Right after that, all the Buses got free emergency only cell phones (which was the excuse that the bus drivers used to keep the cbs) and basically got told to rip the cb radios out or else.

But anyhow, there are many brands such as radio shack, uniden, cobra and all use the legal 40 channel variety found at most major retailers (the cb is based on channels to talk on with 40 being the current number of channels)

Some do go and use modified ham equipment and go into the illegal portions of the space between cb and 10 meter ham radio.. But usually bus drivers stick to the cheap 40 channel radios... truckers and cb operators who do a lot of talking usually run the later radiosWhat kind of CB radio and what frequencies do the school bus drivers use?

I have a set of cobra walkie talkies, and I was looking at getting a cobra CB radio, but i was wondering...could the person using the CB radio talk to someone who is using the two way walkie talkies, if they wer eon the same channel?Could a Cb radio connect to a walkie talkie?
    Not with those walkie talkies.

They have 8 PMR and 83 DCS channels - which are not compatible with any regular CB radios, including cobra.

Todays CB's have 40 channels in the HF band (in the USA) - those walkies are in the UHF band - totally different.

If you also want a walkie talkie to work with a cobra CB, may I suggest the Cobra HH 38 WX ST 4-Mile 40-Channel CB Radio.Could a Cb radio connect to a walkie talkie?
What frequency are the walkie-talkies? Cobra makes FRS/GMRS walkie talkies, they are very tiny and the frequency is in the range of 470MHz.

A CB radio's frequency is in the 28MHz band. It would only talk to a walkie-talkie that is also in the CB radio band, regardless of brand.

The channel numbers mean nothing. Channel 1 on CB is not the same as channel 1 on FRS/GMRS radios.Could a Cb radio connect to a walkie talkie?
Yes,If you are on the same frequency.
IF they're on the same channel, of course.

Do i need an antenna for a hand held cb radio?

i am looking into purchasing a hand held cb radio. its a small factor between getting one with or without an antenna for the car...or just an extension on the radio? what is the best hand held cb radio with best overall signal strength, with the most pro's and least cons?Do i need an antenna for a hand held cb radio?
The best cb radio is the one that gets you on the air! Four watts is the maximum legal output for a CB, 12w for sideband but I doubt if any handheld units will have SSB capability. The "pro" is that you're dealing with a single compact unit, battery powered, that you can take anywhere, very versatile. The "con" is that your mike IS the CB, and you are holding something heavier than a mike, which can be a bit unwieldy as a mobile setup. Yes it can be done, but the coax connection to the mobile antenna is going to be attached to your handheld which makes it even more awkward.

A "rubber duck" antenna would be little more than a dummy load -- but it would work for short distances. You can get the longer antennas, but this again would be problematic in a vehicle. I'd say decide how you're going to use the radio. If it's mostly outdoor portable operation, get the handheld. If it's going to be used in a vehicle, just get the mobile.

How long would it take to discharge a 12 volt truck battery using a cb radio?

i have left my cb radio on over night and the next morning the truck would only start with jump leads i was told it was the cb radio that had done the damage could this be possibleHow long would it take to discharge a 12 volt truck battery using a cb radio?
If it did, then your battery is weak and needs replaced. A cb uses very little electricity if your not talking on it, unless you have amps hooked to it.How long would it take to discharge a 12 volt truck battery using a cb radio?
Leaving a car radio on can do that so yes it could be possible. I think it all depends on how old the battery is and the type of battery it is, Etc... Many factors are involved. How long would it take to discharge a 12 volt truck battery using a cb radio?
yeah - sounds like your battery may be a little weak

and now, your battery is even weaker, since it went below 10.5 volts

it probably went into cellular reversal - which damages parts of the cell

    time to get another battery
If the cb radio was on with the volume down I really couldnt see it discharging your battery. If the volume was up at a normal listening level then for sure it could.

Can i boost a cb radio signal using a music amp?

I recently ordered a cb radio for my car and want to boost the signal. I already have a sound system in the care and was wondering if it was possible to boost the signal using that. Thankyou. JesseCan i boost a cb radio signal using a music amp?
NO. An amplifier is for boosting sound not signal. Can i boost a cb radio signal using a music amp?
No. Your audio system is for frequencies ranging from 20Hz to about 18000Hz.

The CB radio starts at about 27,000,000Hz

The frequency is far too high for your audio amp to even detect.

BTW, it is illegal to increase the power of a CB radio signal beyond 5W input to the base of the antenna.

    See FCC rules, part 97.

Almost all of my business comes off of a major highway and a truck driver has given me the idea to run some specials every few minutes over the CB for truck drivers. Can anyone tell me what type of radio what be the best for distance and anything I can do to enhance that radius. Also what the best frequency to use would be.....details please.....10 easy points!!!Hi I am trying to get a CB radio to broadcast a signal that will have a few advertisment on it for my biz?
i can give you the anwsers like its not really the radio you need for the distance, but the antenna, it has to be set up correctly and the right kind of antenna for your situation, (im sure an antron 99 would work well, simple and cheap) Anything you do to enhance the radio would be illegal, and if your using it to tell people where you are thats probably a bad idea. but a peak and tune would do it. and you would wanna go on channel 19 to advertise... now with all that said

    Dont do it...

if you want to read the FCC rules and regulations for CB radio check this out: http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckin鈥?/a>

as you can see in rule #12 and 13 they tell you its illegal to use it for your purpose. you can not transmit a 1 way broadcast, and you can not use a CB to illicit the sale of goods or services,

You CAN however talk to people and in doing so tell them about your place and to come stop by.Hi I am trying to get a CB radio to broadcast a signal that will have a few advertisment on it for my biz?
That would be illegal use of the Citizens Band Radio Service, per FCC regulations.

  • This may sound like a dumb question but does the engine need to be on for a cb radio to work?

I know nothing about how eighteen wheeler trucks and cb radio's operate. I'm just writing up a project for school. This may sound like a dumb question but does the engine need to be on for a cb radio to work?
There's no reason it would have to, although it will depend on how the electrical system is wired. Some are wired so that the electrical equipment will only be on while the engine is running, but that's not generally the case. This may sound like a dumb question but does the engine need to be on for a cb radio to work?
That depends on how the CB is hooked up, most generally they are hooked up straight to the battery, in this case no, the engine does not need to be running. Some people have their CB tied into something in or under the dash, in this case the engine does not need to be running, but you may have to turn the key all the way back to accessories in order for the CB to come on much like your stereo in your car. You can also put a cigarette adapter on your CB and plug it into the cigarette lighter to get power without the engine running. Most truckers have their CB hooked straight up to the trucks battery or to something that has constant 12 volt power regardless whether the engine is running or not. This may sound like a dumb question but does the engine need to be on for a cb radio to work?
It just needs a 12 volt power supply and well-matched antenna.

Why does the noise on my CB radio get quieter when I hold onto the Mic Cable?

I'm assuming this is a grounding issue, I may be wrong. All grounds seem okay though. Also, how much atmospheric noise is common? This is my first CB radio and don't know how much to expect.

idkWhy does the noise on my CB radio get quieter when I hold onto the Mic Cable?
static varies depending on weather conditions and locations, make sure the antenna is matched to the radio and all the connections are tight, it may also be caused by alternator or ignition noise, when you touch the mic cable you are grounding it better so you may have a bad factory mic, get it checked or replaced.

For a standard CB you need at least a 3AMP supply with an output between 12 and 14volts.

A regulated supply is very much preferred over a non-regulated one but they of course do cost more.

Forget about using any plugback type of wall-wart supply.

They rarely are rated anything above 1 AMP., and are also not often regulated.

Using a supply that cant supply the radio with what it requires will affect your transmitted power and voice quality , and often add a buzz sound to your transmission.

Your best bet is to buy a proper CB power supply , they are not all that expensive.

PS . don't use car battery chargers either. !

  • The SWR on my CB radio is high no matter how i tune?

The SWR on my CB radio is high no matter how i tune the antenna i have a brand new antenna and coax, all i can think of is if it has a bad ground, anyone have anymore ideas? The SWR on my CB radio is high no matter how i tune?
Start from the CB out to the antenna. Plug a known dummy load with known good coax and see if it's the CB that's bad. Then your coax out to dummy load, if possible, to see if your coax is bad (new doesn't necessarily mean working, could be bad connectors). Then (I'm assuming you have a 1/4 wave or equivalent) make sure your antenna isn't shorted out. Make sure it's the correct length for the frequency you're using. Make sure the radiating element isn't touching any other metal. The ideal ground plane ideally needs to look like a disc, out to about the electrical length of the radiating element. That's why it's best to have it on the center of the (metal) roof. Remember, we're talking ground plane here, not a wire going to a ground stake outside, or stuck to the top of the CB itself. The SWR on my CB radio is high no matter how i tune?
Base stationn or mobile? %26amp; how do you have your antenna mounted?

Vintage, yes, I've seen it on a radio museum site. There may be an enthusiast who wants one but set your expectations low (%26lt;$50). eBay job.

Do you have to have a license or registration to talk on a CB radio?

I have a cb radio and wanted to know if i need a license or registration or anything to talk on itDo you have to have a license or registration to talk on a CB radio?
No. At least, not in the U.S. Just know your CB etiquette and don't be stupid. The FCC has guidelines, and most of the people that use it will get annoyed if you break some rules like:

Can't use it to broadcast music, to preach, or to advertise

Can't modify your CB to exceed 4 watts of output

Can't intentionally jam or interefere with the fair communication of others, etc.

Other than that, look up your 10- codes, the phonetic alphabet, and trucker lingo to figure out what the heck everyone on CB is sayin'... :)

oh, and, THEY ARE NOT ILLEGAL.Do you have to have a license or registration to talk on a CB radio?
No-however if you get into Ham radio then you need a license. As it can communicate with people world wide.A CB is limited range.Do you have to have a license or registration to talk on a CB radio?
No, not anymore. Used to have to have a registration and you were given call numbers that you had to use every time you got onto the radio. That was back in the early 70's or late 60's. Now all you need is your"handle" and talk all you want. They are not illegal or every trucker in the country would be breaking the law. However, police scanners and radar detectors can be taken away from you.

By the way, a "handle" is your unique name such as your avitar is here on yahoo. mine was Mello Yello.
My friend has one in his F-150 and has gotten in trouble for it. The officer who pulled him over just let him go b/c it's not really a big deal to him cause we live in a small town. Anyways it's illegal to have one.

I plugged my cb radio into the wrong voltage?

i plugged my cb radio into the wrong voltage and it wont turn on. its a uniden pc68xl should i send it off for repair? thanks for any help!I plugged my cb radio into the wrong voltage?
oh man! i hope its the fuse. this is a good reason to ALWAYS fuse your radios. i made a mistake a while ago with a $200+ radio. i am happy i put that fuse there. the fuse was DESTROYED worse than ive ever seen. ble w another one by being a complete idiot 2 days ago hooking up red to black and black to red (problem was i didnt use black and red) oh well...

well i hope it was the fuse. Check that, hopefully you had one inline or hope the one inside the radio popped.

CB radios are extreamly sensitive to voltage increases. they should not be volted like amps can be. Its probably the fuse. if not start looking for a new radio. not worth getting repaired.
Pull the cover and trace the input hopefully it was surge protected and fused which can be replaced with the same rated fuse. If not the next component in line probably fried and would need replacing as well as any wire that has a heat blister. The repair may not be the way to go as repair warranty only covers the repairs and the cost of repairs may exceed the cost of good used which when bought from a reputable shop will have a warranty.I plugged my cb radio into the wrong voltage?
Hopefully the fuse took up most the damage. If you let the smoke out the CB, you should send it off for service or take it to a local CB shop to see if they can repair it. It might just be cheaper to buy a new CB.

I want to know how you pulled off this stunt!
should be an inline fuse just replace it, could also be a fuse on the inside for which you will remove the cover look for it around the area where the cord enters the bak of the boxI plugged my cb radio into the wrong voltage?
pull the top of the case off and there should be a fuse inside it, or take it to a CB shop.

How Do i set up my Cb radio to play though my computers?

Want to set up my cb radio so it can be played Live through my PCHow Do i set up my Cb radio to play though my computers?
one option is to connect through the speaker jack normally found on the rear with the rest of the cables. second option is to open machine and add wires to the existing speaker connections remove to existing speaker if no longer want this speaker to work, also a selector swich could be installed to turn off either setup

  • What happens to my CB radio performance if i shorten it 5 or 10 inches?

i would like to shorten the antenna 5 to 10 inches to avoide garage celing contact, how will this affect the output and recieve transmission if i do. the original antenna is 57", or, is there another shorter antenna that i can use without hampering radio performance, its a k40 speech processor cb radio with magnet roof mount, can anybody help me?What happens to my CB radio performance if i shorten it 5 or 10 inches?
No. An antenna is tuned to the frequency you operate on. An antenna is an electrical component of your radio system. You would render your antenna worthless, and damage your radio.

It would be necessary for you to purchase an antenna new that is short enough for your use.

Some antennas have a "loading coil" in them that makes the antenna appear electrically matched to the radio. This is why antennas of different models come in different physical lengths. Changing this physical length electrically changes the characteristics of the antenna. What happens to my CB radio performance if i shorten it 5 or 10 inches?
cutting the length on antennas is NOT recommended

it will adversely affect your reception and transmission abilities

have you ever noticed that all passenger vehicles have the EXACT same length radio antennas??? if not...they do take my word for it...it's 31 inches...don't believe me??? go out to your car or truck with a tape measure and measure the length of your antenna...i bet you it'll measure 31 inches! instead of cutting the antenna to accommodate your ceiling issues...why not bend it like on old school army jeeps and police cars. they used to have it mounted to the rear bumper area and have it bow up to the roof or any other area that you might be able to affix it to so you don't lose receptionWhat happens to my CB radio performance if i shorten it 5 or 10 inches?
doing this will damage your radio, antennas are tuned lenght, you need to get a shorter antenna or lay down the one you have ,if its a base loaded antenna and just a steel wire antenna then it wont damage it if it hits,if its fiberglass you could fracture the antenna and water can get in and cause problems.you could also check for a breakaway mount that makes the antenna lay down if hit
get an swr meter and set the standing wave with the antenna in the position you want it on the roof, after you get the swr set take a magic marker and trace around your antenna, now you can take it off when you go in the garage and put it back on when leaving. 33yrs. cb and ham experience.
